GET INTO SKATING!
FROM BEGINNER TO COMPETITOR!
Gold Coast Roller Sports has decades of experience supporting skaters of all abilities on their journey from beginner to experienced competitor. Roller Skating is a rare form of sport where agility, skill and balance are combined with artistic elements such as dance and performance.
It all begins with “one small step”, or more appropriately one small glide.
The page describes the stages involved in your skating journey: from starting out as a beginner (Learn To Skate Program), to developing your skill sets and abilities (Development), and finally to reaching the ultimate level of competitive skating.
Each stage requires the dedication and support of a different coaching mentor and training group. Gold Coast Roller Sports has the team to support you every glide of the way!
Learn To Skate
Our Learn to Skate classes are open to all ages and abilities! These classes consist of one-hour lessons, conducted by accredited club coaches. The Learn to Skate Program is divided into three levels of progressive difficulty and skill development. For first time skaters, learning forwards, backwards and one-foot skating, we recommend you attend Level 1. After your first class, we may assess your skating and recommend you move up into Level 2 or Level 3.
Development
The Development Program is designed to progress skaters from the Learn to Skate Program into Competitive Skating. The program involves group classes each focusing on a specific discipline of the sport, these being: Figures, Dance, Free Skating and Footwork. The classes are taught by a number of qualified club coaches, providing skaters with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Skaters must compete in a minimum of three (3) competitions in each chosen discipline to progress to a Competitive Skater and private coaching with an allocated coach.
Competition
Once skaters have successfully completed the Development Program, they will progress to become a Competitive Skater. Competitive Skaters have access to private coaching by one of our qualified club coaches, as well as additional training sessions and times. Skaters can compete in any one or more disciplines, and can have more than one coach working with them. A Competitive Skater's training schedule, lessons and times, and goals will be discussed individually with their allocated coach.
